What is Network Marketing

What is network marketing? Sometimes called multi-level-marketing or MLM, network marketing is a system that allows independent sales representatives to work from home, recruiting other sales representatives and drawing commissions from the sales of their recruits (and from the recruits of their recruits and so on).
The total number of people you recruit into your organization is called your "downline." Build a large enough downline, and you can theoretically collect commissions from hundreds or even thousands of salesmen, many levels deep. That means you are earning money not only from your own efforts, but from other people's efforts as well. By this means, it is theoretically possible to build up a regular, residual income stream far greater than anything you could ever hope to earn through your personal sales efforts!!!
Network marketing is a combination of word-of-mouth advertising and relationship marketing. Whether we realize it or not, we all advertise by word-of-mouth all the time in our everyday walk of life. Think about it, the last movie you saw or the last new restaurant you tried, why did you choose that restaurant or that movie. If you are like me, its because a friend told you that they enjoyed it. Commercials are supposed to suck you in to buy their product. Not your friend, they do not have anything to gain by suggesting that you go see that movie. They suggested the movie because THEY liked it. So which is more effective, a commercial suggesting that you go see that movie or a friend telling you how much they enjoyed the movie. Now which do you think cost the companies the least amount of money?
OK, let's give you a hypothetical example. Let's say you run into Kim at the grocery store and she can't believe how great you look. You tell her you look like this as a result of a new program called Look Brite that you have been on for a couple of months. You gives her the number and she immediately goes home, calls the number, and signs up. What if the person on the other end ask her how did she hear about their program and Kim gives them your name. How would you feel if Look Brite sends you a thank-you letter and a discount on your next purchase for bringing Look Brite a new customer? That would probably make you very happy.
Look Brite's intention was to reward you for this new word-of-mouth customer, and from now on when Kim makes a purchase from Look Brite, Look Brite sends you a check for a % of Kim's purchase. Now why would Look Brite continue sending checks to you? Look Brite WANTS TO ENCOURAGE YOU TO SEND THEM MORE CUSTOMERS. You send Look Brite another customer and you get another discount on your purchases plus you receive a check every time the new customer and Kim makes a purchase. If you continue to send customers, you generate more discounts and more word-of-mouth checks. After a year, you are receiving several small checks a month. After several years, you've helped to create dozens of monthly customers that generate hundreds of dollars of extra, no-hassle income to you. That would be nice, wouldn't it?
This can be called relationship marketing because the word-of-mouth advertising was made with people you have a relationship with that Look Brite doesn't have. This is the theory behind network marketing.
