Peace and Comfort

Psalm 23 The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. He maketh me to lie down in green pastures; he leadeth me beside the still waters. He restoreth my soul; he leadeth me in paths of righteousness for his name's sake. Yea though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil; for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me. Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of my enemies; thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life; and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.

This Psalm reveals the many ways God shows His loving kindness and protecting power to those who need Him. Grace is God's unmerited blessing, freely bestowed to those that do not deserve it. This Psalm also expresses confidence that God will help in the worst of circumstances, including death and evil.

II Corinthians 1:3 Blessed [be] the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort; who comforteth us in all our affliction, that we may be able to comfort them that are in any affliction, through the comfort wherewith we ourselves are comforted of God.

Comfort involves encouraging and strengthening the afflicted. We may comfort others by witnessing to our own troubles and how God has helped us in them. Christian comfort does not make us comfortable. If gives us strength to endure as Christians in a world set against Christ. As Christ suffered, so must we. As we suffer, we receive comfort from God and from Christian prayer partners.

As God comforts us we feel peace.
