Louise Bush's Devotionals     Why I Believe in Prayer Prayer is communication with God. Prayer includes listening, discussion, and giving thanks - Not just asking for things. There are three reasons to pray. They are for God's benefit, for your benefit, and for the benefit of others. Relationship is dependent on communication. Your relationship with the Lord, or anyone will never grow and develop without communication. God desires your fellowship. He wants to have you spend time with Him. Revelation 3:20 Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me. I believe prayer is a privilege. We love the presence of those who love us, especially when we also love them. God loves you more than anyone else does. As we spend time focused on God in His presence, we change into His likeness. II Corinthians 3:18 But we all, with open face beholding as in a glass the glory of the Lord, are changed into the same image from glory to glory, even as by the Spirit of the Lord. Prayer expresses my dependence on God. Prayer helps me remember that I can do nothing of significance without Him. When I pray and talk with God, it forces me to honestly face my situation, for I know I cannot fool God. God resists the proud but blesses the humble. James 4:6 But he giveth more grace. Wherefore he saith, God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace unto the humble. Prayer keeps me connected with God. Time spent in prayer helps us to stay tuned in spiritually and remaining sensitive to God. I have found prayer is the opposite of doing things by myself. Prayer is hard on pride. Proud people do not pray much.
