However, this new trombone has the important added feature of an F-trigger, which gives a player the option of pitching the instrument down to the key of F with a simple valve adjustment. By pressing the F-trigger valve, a trombonist can play notes in the sixth position wihout moving out of first position, which greatly increases the ability to play fast passages. In addition, the F-trigger gives a trombonist the choice of notes more than an octave below what a regular Bb trombine can provide.
