When in motion our cut silk velvet burnouts reflect light in different shades and colors, which cannot be captured in a still photograph. Silk devore fabric feels extremely soft, caressing, delicate, and luxurious on your skin.

Our unique silk velvets can be worn as a shawl with an evening dress or/and as a scarf with a coat. We also produce matching ruanas and other garments, include custom designed evening dresses, stoles, and capes!
Until the 1990's most recent velvets produced was only rayon or acetate based, although velvet was first made from silk in the Middle Ages. A few years ago, American trained British designer Jasper Conran revived silk devore fabric, a rayon pile velvet burnt away with acid printing to leave shadows of silk chiffon amid deep velvet pile. This technique, first invented in France at least a century ago and very fashionable in the "roaring twenties" has now made a striking comeback! Devore literally means "to devour" in French. The process uses a chemical gel that eats away (dissolves) cellulose plant fibers (such as cotton, linen, rayon, and viscose) without harming the non-plant silk fibers.
Our stunning pieces are created by starting with a large piece of velvet silk/rayon blend (charmeuse). The fabric consists of a soft dense rayon pile with a silk chiffon back. In some cases we dye a pattern first, then apply chemical burnout to etch away a complimentary pattern into the velvet/rayon pile, leaving the sheer silk behind, and then we add final color accents to our most complex pieces.
Our silk chiffon is very sturdy and provides considerable warmth, even where the rayon has been completely burned away. Our unique silk designs offer your wardrobe that special flair.
You may enjoy the modern avante garde flair of the semi-transparent charmeuse fabric or we will gladly provide a lining in a complimentary fabric. The details are always up to you!
